How Does Viagra Work?

Viagra works not by increasing the libido as many think. This means Viagra will not help those who don’t have the desire. With so much hype going on around Viagra it must be made clear, Viagra is not an aphrodisiac, it will not “light your fire”, if there is no sexual stimulation and one has ingested Viagra, the body will not be affected and after 4 hours the medicament will loose effectiveness gradually, lasting up to 8 hours. No sudden or uncontrollable urge to have sexual relations will be produced, as the user of the pill remains in full control of his libido, which will remain pretty much the same as before ingesting the medicament.

Viagra does work by homing in directly to the PDE5, an enzyme that is specific to the penis, this allows an erection in patients that have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction, caused by diabetes, clogged arteries or many other problems, even psicological.

Erectile Dysfunction is produced mainly because not enough blood goes into the penis, blood flow gives the erection it’s hardness, so poor blood flow will produce a flaccid penis or a soft erection that sometimes will be insufficient for adequate penetration. The problem could also result in an erection that doesn’t last long enough for a satisfactory sexual relation. Many men don’t know how to deal with this problem and blame themselves and their way of life. If they drink to much, say it’s because of their drinking. If they have a hectic lifestyle say it’s because they are too tired. Some come to believe it’s all in their heads, and never even seek their doctor’s advice.

How does concentrating in an enzyme improve an erection? When PDE5 is present, there is no erection. Viagra does it’s work by inhibiting this enzyme. There are 10 PDE enzymes, but Viagra manages to affect precisely PDE5 which is present almost exclusively in the penis. When PDE5 is cast away the possibility of an erection becomes a reality. If the person gets stimulated, nitric oxide (NO) is released into the corpus cavernosum of the penis. Inside the penis, nitric oxide activates yet another enzyme called guanylate cyclase which increases cyclic guansine monophosphate (CGMP) producing a relaxation of the smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum so blood can stream freely filling up the penis, giving as a result a strong and long lasting erection.

Viagra works in a very natural way, letting the body and it’s enzymes do what they are supposed to, and simply holds down the enzyme who is preventing the erection in the first place.
